Counting down to the New Year is undoubtedly the highlight of year-end celebrations, and everyone goes all out to plan the most unforgettable night to welcome the new year. Booking website Hotels.com surveyed popular hotel destinations searched by Taiwanese on domestic websites during the New Year’s Day holiday, and found that Taipei beat out other popular Asian destinations such as Tokyo and Hong Kong to top the list of Taiwanese people’s New Year’s Eve wish lists.

In addition, domestic cities such as Kaohsiung, Taichung, and New Taipei City also made the list. Among them, Yilan, Nantou, and Taitung saw triple-digit growth in search rates, indicating that domestic light travel is a popular choice for this New Year’s holiday. According to Hotels.com’s 2015 search ranking, major domestic cities performed exceptionally well overall, with over half of the top 10 destinations being domestic cities. Taipei topped the list of the most searched cities during the New Year’s period this year, showcasing its irreplaceable charm in the hearts of Taiwanese. Other popular choices such as Kaohsiung, Taichung, and New Taipei ranked fourth, sixth, and eighth respectively.
