There’s a new ramen shop in Taipei. “Nantsuttei Ramen” (なんつっ亭), which has received numerous Japanese culinary awards, is opening its first Taiwan location in Taipei’s East District, Lane 216. It is expected to officially open on December 28. Diners should be aware that Nantsuttei does not accept reservations—only walk-ins are allowed.

Lane 216 in Taipei’s East District is bustling with eateries, and over the past year it has become a hotspot for Japanese ramen shops. In addition to stores such as Enjin Ramen from Hokkaido, Taka Ramen from Tokyo, and Setagaya Ramen, the ramen shop originating from Kanagawa Prefecture—“Nantsuttei Ramen”—has also set up shop here. Founded in 1997 by Chiro Koide, Nantsuttei began when he learned the art of making ramen at a famous shop during his youth and later returned to his hometown of Kanagawa to open his own place, “Nantsuttei.” Currently in Japan, aside from the main store, there are branches in Shinagawa, Mito, Okachimachi, and Kawasaki. Internationally, it also has locations in Thailand and Singapore.
