The Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Assets Management Office has launched the “Cypress Comes to Jiayi” railway culture event. Now, you can experience the charm of a vintage cypress wood train on the plains of Chiayi without having to go up Alishan Mountain.

Until March 31 this year, diesel-powered cypress wood trains run every Saturday and Sunday between Chiayi and Beimen Stations, while every other weekend features a diesel train with an attached steam locomotive. These offer a completely new experience in tourism, culture, and history.

To experience the cypress wood train, services run every weekend between Chiayi Railway Station and Beimen Station. Odd-numbered Saturdays also feature adorable steam trains. Odd-numbered Saturdays fall on March 2, 16, and 30.

To ride this rare railway experience, there are three round-trip services per day. Departures from Chiayi Station are at 11:00, 14:00, and 15:00, while departures from Beimen Station are at 10:40, 13:40, and 15:40.

Each service is limited to 120 passengers. The one-way fare for the diesel cypress wood train is NT$100, and NT$150 for the steam-hauled cypress wood train. Both come with highly commemorative, exclusive tickets.
