Taipei Metro Stays Open All Night for 2016 New Year’s Eve – Three Routes to Avoid Traffic Jams When Leaving

To welcome 2016, a New Year’s Eve countdown party will be held at Taipei City Hall Plaza on December 31, bringing everyone together to ring in the new year in high spirits. To ease the post-event crowd, Taipei Metro will operate continuously for 42 hours as usual (from 6:00 AM on December 31, 2015, to midnight on January 1, 2016, excluding Xiaobitan Station and Xinbeitou Station), and the Maokong Gondola will also extend its operating hours until 2:00 AM, running as needed until all passengers have been transported.It is recommended to make good use of the three routes—Brown Line (Banqiao–Nangang), Red Line (Tamsui–Xinyi), and Green Line (Songshan–Xindian)—for a smooth New Year’s Eve and a joyful welcome to the New Year’s Day celebration.

This evacuation plan still relies onthe Brown Line, Red Line, and Green Lineto accompany travelers through New Year’s Eve. Taipei Metro has devised a handy tip: “Take different lines to enter, and use these three lines to exit.” Passengers can choose nearby stations and take the Brown Line or Red Line to get there. Please note that City Hall Station on the Brown Line and Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station on the Red Line are close to the countdown venue and will be extremely crowded. It is advisable to get off early at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station or Xinyi Anhe Station and walk to the event. After the event ends, you can use the “three-route exit” strategy with the Brown Line, Red Line, and Green Line,preferably walking to one of the five stations on these three lines (Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station, Yongchun Station, Xinyi Anhe Station, Xiangshan Station, and Nanjing Sanmin Station) to board the train and avoid the crowds at City Hall Station and Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station.

To better handle the large number of attendees, Taipei Metro has adjusted train intervals for various lines. The shortest interval on the Brown Line is reduced to 2 minutes and 27 seconds, while the shortest on the Red Line is 3 minutes. Starting from 5:00 PM on the 31st, trains departing from either Tamsui or Beitou will be extended to Xiangshan Station.
 
●New Year’s Eve Metro Line Adjustments Are As Follows:
◎ Brown Line
Train intervals are about 2 minutes and 32 seconds, with the shortest interval reaching 2 minutes and 27 seconds, continuing until crowd dispersal is complete.
◎ Red Line (Tamsui–Xinyi)
Starting from 5:00 PM on the 31st, all Red Line trains will be extended to Xiangshan Station, with an average interval of about 3 minutes.
◎ Green Line (Songshan–Xindian)
Train intervals are about 6 to 8 minutes (approximately 3 to 4 minutes for the overlapping section between Songshan Station and Tai Power Building Station), with flexible adjustments based on crowd dispersal.
◎ Zhonghe–Xinlu Line
Train intervals are about 6 to 8 minutes (approximately 3 to 4 minutes for the overlapping section between Nanshihjiao Station and Daqiaotou Station), with flexible adjustments based on crowd dispersal.
◎ Wenhu Line (Brown Line)
Train intervals are about 2 to 3.5 minutes, with flexible adjustments based on crowd dispersal.

●Tips for Entering and Exiting the Event:
Because December 31 (Thursday) is a regular work and school day, it’s recommended to choose a nearby metro station and plan your route in advance.
Entering the venue
◎ Brown Line
(1) From Banqiao, Xinzhuang, Luzhou, or the urban section of the Songshan Line: Take the Brown Line.
(2) From Neihu or Nangang areas: Go to Nangang Exhibition Center Station and transfer to the Brown Line.
◎ Tamsui-Xinyi Line
(1) From Tamsui, Xindian, or Zhongyonghe areas: You can take or transfer to the Tamsui-Xinyi Line directly.
(2) From Wenshan area: You can transfer to the Tamsui-Xinyi Line at Da’an Station.
