The Dutch water architecture firm Dutch Docklands is building a snowflake-shaped floating hotel for Norway called the “Krystall Hotel.” At night, the hotel drifts across the dark ocean, situated in an environment completely free from light pollution, making it the most ideal and dreamlike choice for travelers wishing to admire the aurora.

The best time to view the aurora is from September each year to April of the following year. Travelers from all over the world flock to Nordic cities to witness the aurora with their own eyes. Dutch Docklands is designing a snowflake-shaped hotel for Tromsø, a Norwegian city within the Arctic Circle. Aside from its unique shape, this hotel will also become Europe’s first-ever floating sea hotel. There’s no need to worry about endless drifting—the hotel features a concrete foundation that anchors the structure between straits, allowing it to float freely within a certain range. Guests here can simply lie in bed and enjoy the breathtaking view of the northern lights over the sea.

The snowflake hotel will be built with glass and feature a total of 86 rooms, as well as facilities such as a fireplace, spa, fitness center, and meeting rooms made of transparent bricks. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2016 and officially open in 2017.
