Flower Viewing & Hot Spring Fun: 10,000 Plum Blossoms Bloom Like Snow, Unbelievably Romantic

As cold fronts sweep in, the damp and chilly weather is perfect for soaking in hot springs and admiring plum blossoms. The renowned BaoLai and BuLao hot springs in Liouguei District, Kaohsiung City, coupled with the vast seas of plum blossoms that bloom across the mountains every winter, make it a popular winter travel destination in southern Taiwan. Recently, Liouguei District has entered its plum blossom season, with around 40–50% of the 12,000 plum trees in the Bamboo Forest Leisure Agriculture Area already in bloom. The district office also hosted the “Plum Madness” plum blossom viewing event on the weekend of January 9 and 10 — come and enjoy the view.

Plum blossoms across Taiwan are gradually entering their blooming period. Liouguei’s expansive plum forests cover 200 hectares and are home to approximately 12,000 plum trees. This year, the blooms are about ten days later than usual but are now entering full bloom, creating one of the most beautiful floral spectacles in southern Taiwan. Especially in the bamboo forest area of Liouguei and the Meilongshan mountain slopes in Baolai Village — a specialized plum-growing region located at elevations between 440m and 1,320m — the climate is ideal for growing plum trees. The plum blossoms are expected to remain viewable until early February.
