As the 2016 Spring Festival arrives, Tainan City’s most popular New Year event, the “Flower Festival,” is set to kick off on February 4th. Continuing last year’s spirit of “blooming everywhere,” this year’s event will again take place across six locations: Shuiping Park, Nanying Green Heart Park, Liujia District Multifunctional Sports Park, Jiali Park, Xigang Central Park, and Shuijiao She Park. The exhibition period lasts 22 days from February 4th to February 25th. Themed around the Year of the Monkey and inspired by “Journey to the West,” the festival integrates various urban elements of Tainan and uses vibrant flower arrangements to create a festive and joyful atmosphere for welcoming spring in the ancient capital.

● Shuiping Park
Themed “The Ancient Capital in Bloom,” the main entrance is designed with imagery inspired by the Heavenly Palace from Journey to the West, featuring Sun Wukong as the greeter ambassador. The park also includes motifs of the Bull Demon King, drawing inspiration from Tainan’s farming culture, along with representations of Tang Sanzang, Sha Wujing, and Zhu Bajie, showcasing the cultural charm of the first prefectural city that took root across the seas.
● Nanying Green Heart Park
A “Wukong Garden” has been created, featuring flower arrangements resembling a somersault cloud, a peach banquet installation, and playful Wukong sculptures, using oversized props to deliver a fun storytelling experience.

● Liujia District Multifunctional Sports Park
Based on the setting of the Flower-Fruit Mountain from Journey to the West, the park features a “Flower-Fruit Paradise,” complete with installations of Wukong riding the clouds, fruit-shaped displays of local agricultural specialties, and Nazca lines arranged with flowers to immerse visitors in an exploratory journey. The design also incorporates the local artistic, enthusiastic, and childlike charm of Liujia District.

● Jiali Park
Using the local culture of the Jiali Sugar Railway combined with the park’s existing trees, a “Fantasy Forest” is created to evoke the magical atmosphere of Journey to the West.
● Xigang Central Park
Drawing on the adventurous spirit of Journey to the West and combining it with the equally adventurous fairy tale “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” the park tells different adventure stories through installations such as a Fantasy Dreamland, Emerald Castle, and Adventure Journey, creating an educational and entertaining exhibition space.
● Xiaojiao She Park
Showcasing the cultural characteristics of the Thunder Tiger Air Force Base dependents’ village, the park is decorated with floral landscapes and paired with themed events that evoke nostalgia.
