The much-anticipated newest attraction in Chiayi, the High Heel Church, is expected to open in early February 2016 and is forecasted to become a major tourist hotspot during this year’s Lunar New Year holiday. To give fans an early preview, the “Yunlin, Chiayi & Tainan – So Much Fun!!!” (Yunlin, Chiayi & Tainan Coastal Scenic Area) fan page also released multi-angle photos of the High Heel Church on the 18th, allowing people to experience the charm of this new attraction in advance.

The 17-meter-tall High Heel Church is located in the Haikou Park in Budai, Chiayi. Since there are no other buildings nearby, it stands out strikingly and has even been featured in the British media outlet Daily Mail, becoming a new highlight of Taiwan. Standing 17 meters tall and approximately 11 meters wide, the church’s main structure consists of 1,269 steel frames and is covered by around 320 pieces of glass, making for a highly eye-catching design. Its construction cost reached NT$23.17 million. The design concept was inspired by women in northern Chiayi who once suffered from Blackfoot disease and dreamed of wearing high heels. Currently, the construction of the High Heel Church has been delayed due to consecutive days of heavy rain, but work is being expedited in hopes of opening before the Lunar New Year.
