New Taipei’s First Flower Season of the Year – Three Scenic Spots to Welcome the Year of the Monkey in Color

To celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year, the New Taipei City Government has planted flowering plants at recreational spots such as the Sunshine Bridge, Crescent Moon Bridge, and Bali Old Banyan Fort. The flower season is expected to last until after the Lunar New Year, inviting everyone to come and enjoy the blooms to welcome the Lunar Year of the Monkey.

Last year, New Taipei City was hit multiple times by typhoons including Typhoon Soudelor, causing damage to the Xindian River basin. However, the soil washed down from upstream during the storms enriched the riverbank flats, resulting in a spectacular display of nearly 1 hectare of cosmos flowers sown in the area beneath the Sunshine Bridge, thanks to the fertile soil. Meanwhile, 25,000 flowering plants have been planted at Bali Old Banyan Fort and the Crescent Moon Bridge. To match the joyful festive atmosphere of the New Year, red, pink, and gold varieties such as scarlet sage and crabapple flowers were specially chosen, adding a cheerful touch to the riverside scenery.
