Shanghai’s Thames Town, with its European-style ambiance, makes visitors feel as if they are walking through Europe and has become a popular spot for Chinese wedding photography. In 2013, the “most beautiful bookstore in Shanghai,” Zhongshu Pavilion, opened here, integrating both Eastern and Western elements to add another beautiful street scene while infusing the area with a strong cultural atmosphere.

Zhongshu Pavilion is a two-story red European-style building, with ivy-covered exterior walls, located in a serene corner of Thames Town. The two floors are divided into completely different styles. Upon entering, one can see neatly arranged literature works beneath a transparent floor, connected to towering bookshelves, creating a striking visual effect. The space is designed using the nine-grid layout inspired by China's Hetu and Luoshu, making each section feel like an independent study, surrounded by a world built from books. On the second floor, a predominantly white reading space greets visitors, featuring carefully calculated curved bookshelves on both sides that form a fantastical egg-shaped reading area. The mirrored ceiling layers reflections, creating an illusion of infinite space, immersing people in a magical paradise of knowledge.
