The Guanziling Hot Spring area has a history of over a century since its development during the Japanese colonial period in 1898 and boasts Taiwan’s only mud hot spring. Guanziling Hot Spring is an alkaline carbonated spring with thick, smooth, and viscous water. According to a hot spring composition survey report by the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office during the Japanese colonial period, Guanziling Hot Spring contains the rare mineral radium. Historical records also praise it as the “Number One Spiritual Spring Under Heaven,” known for its beauty-enhancing and health-promoting effects. As a natural mud hot spring, it has been a renowned hot spring destination in Taiwan since the Japanese colonial period. When Taiwan Governor-General Sakuma Samata fell ill, he specifically traveled south to Guanziling to recover in its hot springs, making Guanziling a famous century-old hot spring town.
