Every weekend and holiday, the area around Taichung’s Qin Art Museum is packed with visitors out for a stroll, soaking up the sun. Recently, a unique dessert shop resembling a large piece of installation art called “Sansei-en Matcha” opened next to the Qin Art Museum. This dessert brand, which has already gained considerable popularity in southern Taiwan, has attracted many matcha enthusiasts since its launch in Taichung, creating a matcha craze.

Sansei-en Matcha is a matcha specialty shop with a 500-year history in Japan and currently has five branches in southern Taiwan. Each branch features its own unique design. This marks its first foray into central Taiwan, and Sansei-en Matcha has specially designed its exterior to resemble the ancient trading ship “Sansei-maru.” The space is infused with a rich Edo-period retro atmosphere, making you feel as if you’ve stepped onto a time machine and traveled back to ancient Japan to enjoy desserts.
