A felt earthquake occurred at 11:17 Taiwan time on May 12, with a magnitude of 5.8. The epicenter was in the northeastern offshore area of Taiwan, and Yilan experienced an intensity of level 6.

The magnitude of the earthquake was so strong that it startled many people. Around 11:20, many mobile phones also received a national alert presidential message, reporting that the quake was estimated to be above magnitude 4. Additionally, aftershocks of magnitude 4.4 occurred successively at 11:20 and 11:21. People are urged to stay vigilant for their own safety.
