The city’s duty-free shops, known for their extensive selections and competitive prices, have become go-to shopping destinations. In recent years, competition in Seoul’s duty-free market has intensified. Beyond the well-known Lotte Duty-Free, new players like Shinsegae and Doota Mall have joined the fray.

Following its openings in Busan and Incheon, Shinsegae Duty-Free launched its new store in Myeongdong—a famous shopping and tourist spot—on May 18. Boasting over 600 brands, it aims to be a “paradise where you can experience culture and enjoy shopping.” The duty-free shop employs Chinese and English interpreters to cater to international visitors, attracting numerous tourists.

Meanwhile, Doota Duty-Free in Dongdaemun opened on May 20, featuring Korean superstar Song Joong-ki as its brand ambassador. The store also includes a special “Descendants of the Sun” exhibition hall and a Korean Culture Pavilion. To enhance the shopping experience, Doota Duty-Free has extended its operating hours until 2 a.m., ensuring visitors to Seoul have a vibrant nightlife option and can indulge in shopping fun late into the night.
