Taichung City is hosting the 2016 Taichung Blue Ocean Tourism Season, which will take place at Dajia Coastal Park from June 15 to August 13. The event series opens with the “Dajia Coastal International Sand Sculpture Exhibition,” showcasing 20 sand sculptures themed around the ocean world. Additionally, a creative sand sculpture competition is being held, inviting Japan’s only female sand sculptor, “Matsuki Yuko,” to create works in Taiwan, competing alongside other domestic and international sand sculpture artists.

This year’s sand sculpture exhibition draws inspiration from the theme of Sun Wukong causing havoc in the Dragon Palace of the East Sea, combined with ocean mythology to lead the public into the marine world. There is also a family-friendly cartoon series suitable for all ages, while the entrance of the sand sculpture exhibition features floral expo imagery, serving as a warm-up for the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.

To complement the sand sculpture exhibition, Dajia Coastal Park has been transformed into the Dajia Visitor Service Center. The park’s swimming pool will be fully open starting July 2, becoming a great spot for the public to cool off and enjoy the water during summer vacation. In addition, from June 18 to July 7, a 20-day campaign will be held at the Dajia Visitor Service Center where visitors can receive a Lock&Lock water bottle for checking in (limited to 50 per day), and also participate in a lucky draw with grand prizes including an iPhone 6S, Sony 40T TV, iPad Mini, and a Nespresso capsule coffee machine.
