Summer is a great season for stargazing. To enjoy the breathtaking sight of a star-filled sky, it’s essential to choose a location with a wide field of vision and minimal light pollution — which is why most stargazing spots are located far from urban areas. The editors have compiled a list of Taiwan’s top five popular stargazing locations. On a clear night, simply look up to see a glittering expanse of stars above, or catch the annual Perseid meteor shower, a summer spectacle that creates truly unforgettable moments.

1. Wufen Mountain
The weather radar station on Wufen Mountain and the Wild Valley near Shifen are renowned stargazing spots in northern Taiwan, as well as secret bases for photography enthusiasts. Due to their relatively high elevation, light pollution is reduced, making them ideal for stargazing on clear nights.

2. Hehuanshan Yuanshan (Falcon Peak)
At an altitude of 2,756 meters, Falcon Peak offers an exceptional vantage point with sweeping views. Coupled with minimal light pollution at night and convenient access, it has become one of the best spots for stargazing.
3. Gukeng Huashan
Huashan is surrounded by numerous scenic restaurants, making it a romantic destination perfect for couples. Thanks to its higher elevation, the starry skies are visible along the way, attracting many visitors in the evening.

4. Tataga Parking Lot
Tataga is far from the city and almost entirely free of light pollution, making it an excellent place to observe stars, learn about celestial bodies, and identify constellations. It frequently hosts stargazing events and astronomical observations organized by astronomy enthusiasts and academic groups.

5. Dahan Forest Road
Dahan Forest Road is a hidden gem among stargazing enthusiasts, but due to its remote location, extra care should be taken regarding transportation and the safety of personal belongings when heading up the mountain.
