The highlight of Kaohsiung’s summer, the “2016 Qijin Black Sand Art Festival,” grandly opened on July 2 at Qijin Beach. This year’s event theme, “Kaohsiung Sand is Huge,” features a variety of sand sculpture displays, light shows, DIY sand sculpting, beach volleyball, a beachside twilight fun run, and rock concerts, inviting visitors to join in the southern Taiwan summer extravaganza.

The second edition of the “Qijin Black Sand Art Festival” was held from July 2 to September 4 on Qijin Beach, where sand sculptors from around the world transformed Kaohsiung’s local features and scenic beauty into sand art using Qijin’s black sand. Don’t miss the nation’s first-ever nighttime sand sculpture light show, offering a unique beach landscape under the summer night sky.

In addition, this year features many engaging fringe activities, including the inflatable water play area “Happy Water World,” DIY sand sculpture experiences, beach volleyball tournaments, and the inaugural Qijin Beach Twilight Fun Run on August 27. That evening’s summer rock concert will feature popular group Wang Fu and local Kaohsiung bands performing live.
