The YUHSIU Museum of Art, which opened at the beginning of the year, is currently the world’s first private museum dedicated exclusively to “contemporary realism art.” It was funded and built by entrepreneur Mr. Hou Ying? and Ms. Ye Yiuhsiu. The entire structure of the museum is primarily made of fair-faced concrete, complemented by an Eastern garden concept, presenting a low-key yet elegant beauty. Additionally, there is a cultural and creative shop, the Thinking Space, and VIP lodging facilities, all aiming to create a small-scale museum that is understated, refined, diverse, and flexibly operated.

Entrepreneurs Mr. Hou Ying? and Ms. Ye Yiuhsiu have, since 2007, invested in the support and cultivation of young artists through various forms of sponsorship, using their own resources. They hope to elevate the level of artistic creation and aesthetic education in Taiwan through exhibitions, collections, research, teaching, and artist residencies. They also aim to introduce young Taiwanese artists to the international stage.

The museum building was designed by Taiwanese architect Liao Weili. The three buildings within the complex are arranged in a random yet harmonious layout, reflecting the clustered context of the village, while attempting to integrate architectural space, materials, structure, and construction. The design concept follows the principles of “understated,” “refined,” and “streamlined” proposed by the museum. The building uses fair-faced concrete, timber structures, and glass curtains as materials, striving to embody “a strategy of ‘retreat,’ responding to nature in an ‘understated’ way; a principle of ‘hiding,’ crafting ‘refined’ quality; and a method of ‘simplicity,’ showcasing elegant ‘streamlining.’”

Founder Ye Yiuhsiu also mentioned: Choosing to build at the foot of Jiujue Peak, we only hope to add a faint stroke of color on the canvas of blue skies, white clouds, and lush green earth. It may not be stunning, but we hope it moves you. Especially in the rain or after rainfall, Jiujue Peak is as pristine as a paradise on earth, where heaven, earth, and humanity seem to harmonize perfectly.

In addition, the cultural and creative merchandise in the museum’s gift shop are all independently developed, including exhibition publications, art books, artist merchandise, imported brand boutique items… etc. There is also a dedicated sales area for young artists, offering a selection of highly artistic and design-oriented creative products.
