The Gongweixu Tunnel in Miaoli is Taiwan’s only railway fortress-style tunnel. Completed in 1903, its exterior remains remarkably well-preserved to this day. After the train service was discontinued, the Miaoli City Government renovated the site, installing colorful lighting inside the tunnel that illuminates both the tunnel and the historical traces of the past between 5 AM and 8 PM.

Leopard Cat Mountain Park near the Gongweixu Tunnel is a natural urban forest park and a popular spot for locals to enjoy spring outings on holidays. The expansive park offers mountain trails leading to viewpoints overlooking Miaoli City, and behind the park lies the Level 3 Historic Site, the Lai Family Memorial Archway for Chastity and Filial Piety.
