The “2016 Taiwan Culinary Exhibition” will be grandly held at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from August 5 to 8. It has invited Hsinchu, Chiayi, and Taichung to create three flagship theme pavilions: “Breezy Hsinchu County,” “Sunny Taiwan,” and “Seasonal Taiwan”! Before the opening, to let the public get a sneak peek at the charm of these three flagship theme pavilions, dozens of renowned chefs have been invited to showcase their culinary skills, demonstrating seasonal set menus for spring, summer, autumn, and winter in advance, interpreting the pure flavors of Taiwan — “Eat local, enjoy seasonal.”

Themed “The Pure Food Era,” the “2016 Taiwan Culinary Exhibition” features six exhibition zones with 820 booths, spanning over 19 pavilions, making it the largest in scale in past years. Among them, the 【Breezy Hsinchu County Pavilion】 is specially presented by Hsinchu County Government to highlight local characteristics. Utilizing the unique strong northeastern monsoon winds, it employs the natural method of “air-drying” to remove moisture from food, extending shelf life while preserving nutrients. Combined with Hakka dietary culture and the region’s beautiful mountains and waters, it nurtures special products including pickled vegetables, Oriental Beauty tea, dried mullet roe, persimmon cakes, and ground tea.

The 【Sunny Taiwan Pavilion】 showcases Chiayi’s unique sun-drenched food culture, exhibiting high mountain tea and coffee beans from Alishan, as well as the 15-degree sweet Sweet Sister Melon. Also featured are indispensable sun-dried delicacies such as dried mullet roe, love pea, plums, and bamboo shoots, inviting visitors to savor authentic and natural Chiayi flavors.

At the “Seasonal Taiwan Pavilion,” meticulously created with the support of Taichung City Government, 48 renowned chefs have also been invited to collaborate. Among them, Sheraton Grand Taipei, Regent Taipei, Fuhang Hotel Taichung, and Chef Luo’s Sichuan-style Sauce Chicken Dishes fully present the “spring, summer, autumn, winter” seasonal set menus on-site. These combine artful tableware from JIA Inc, Taihua Kiln, Linglong Kiln, and installations by Fangshiluyang Glass Art Museum, recreating a new era of dining aesthetics from visual to gustatory experiences. Additionally, more specially crafted private seasonal set menus are exhibited in the “Seasonal Taiwan” Pavilion at the food show, and are also available for sale at the respective hotels and restaurants of the participating chefs. Seasonal set menus start from NT$660, and à la carte items from NT$110.
