Azaleas in Full Bloom on Alishan – Admire the Welcoming Sea of Flowers

At the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area under the Alishan Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau in Chiayi, azaleas have burst into full bloom, especially on the slopes near Alishan Railway Station, where orange-red floral seas sway in the wind. The delicate blooms and the large, showy hydrangeas vie with each other in a stunning display of beauty, creating a cool and refreshing visual feast in the sweltering summer heat.

The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is currently in the peak blooming season for azaleas, whose lush, rice-field-like greenery is punctuated by bursts of vibrant orange-red flowers. It’s as if a spilled palette has painted the season in shades of orange, resembling a scene straight out of a fairy tale—breathtakingly beautiful and utterly captivating. Coupled with the phytoncides released by thousand-year-old cypress trees, carried gently by the mountain mist like a breeze, you’ll feel refreshed and invigorated, with all summer heat melted away.

Azaleas can be spotted around the slopes near Alishan Railway Station, along Zhushan Forest Road, and in Zhapingshan Park, among other locations. Walkers can stroll along the pedestrian-only path to Zhapingshan Park, enjoying the flowers while soaking in the forest’s phytoncides. Alternatively, take the new electric sightseeing cart or the forest train to Zhapingshan Station, then wander through the literary charm of Zhapingshan Park or visit the Shuisan Giant Tree to gaze up at the approximately 2,700-year-old old red cypress.
