Humans have always been driven by boundless curiosity to explore the unknown wonders of nature. Formed over millions of years by rainwater infiltration and river erosion of limestone layers, the world’s largest underground cave – Hang Son Doong in Vietnam’s Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park in the central region – is such a captivating attraction. At its widest point, it stands 240 meters high and 170 meters wide, large enough to accommodate a Boeing 747 and even a 40-story building. Here, you’ll find towering, awe-inspiring stalagmites and stalactites, as well as rushing underground rivers that require ropes to cross – all masterpieces carved by nature.

Michael, the founder of Outerboro who had heard of the beauty of Hang Son Doong, decided – upon the invitation of his Vietnamese friend – to embark on a five-day adventure. In addition to bringing along his father and brothers, he also gathered a few friends to form a 10-person team. Due to concerns about the ever-changing terrain inside Hang Son Doong, the full 60-kilometer journey would be led by two British experts. Each team member was assigned three Vietnamese assistants to carry luggage, along with a professional chef to prepare meals during camping. However, this expedition was no easy feat – even Michael, who is usually physically active, found it challenging. The most surprising part? Michael’s father, who is nearly 60 years old, proved to be tough as ever and managed to complete four days of the journey.

Although the team members were equipped with plenty of functional clothing, the harsh environment quickly left everything wet and dirty. Yet, their disheveled state gave Michael an idea: beyond the existing features of Outerboro apparel – lightweight, breathable, odor-resistant, and quick-drying – perhaps they could take clothing to the next level, allowing wearers to perform at their best in any environment.
