Established in 2015, "HowToTrip Light Hotel," the largest chain of backpacker design hostels in Taiwan, originates as a youthful sub-brand under the "HowToTrip Cultural & Creative Design Hotel Group." It targets young independent travelers, backpackers, and other youth demographics from both Taiwan and overseas. Currently, it has branches in Hualien, Chiayi, and Tainan, and made its first foray into Kaohsiung this August, bringing the total number of branches across Taiwan to four.

The Kaohsiung branch offers a total of 42 guest rooms, including 9 dormitory-style rooms with a total of 72 beds, and 33 independent standard rooms. HowToTrip Light Hotel advocates for light and simple services, aiming to foster deep travel experiences and interactions among backpackers. With the brand concept of "Cozy Taiwan – New Taiwanese Industrial Natural Style," it emphasizes social and communal experiences during the stay. Features such as a private map wall of hidden spots co-created by backpackers, various puzzle board games, an instrument lounge, and a shared kitchen allow all guests to interact freely and share travel stories. The nightly rate at HowToTrip Light Hotel starts as low as NT$600, and complimentary self-service breakfast is provided.

The creation of the HowToTrip Light Hotel brand was inspired by General Manager Chen TD’s backpacking experiences during her student years abroad. She observed a new trend in travel: independent travelers seeking deeper, more meaningful experiences, valuing interaction, sharing, and socializing during their journeys. They tend to stay longer in single cities, delving deeper into local life. Therefore, budget-friendly options naturally appeal to independent travelers and backpackers, leading them to choose this type of accommodation.

In the future, HowToTrip Light Hotel plans to actively expand its number of branches. Development will focus along Taiwan’s railway lines, taking into account the transportation convenience needs of backpackers. Priority will be given to converting old hostels or hotels. Within five years, HowToTrip Light Hotel aims to grow to 20 branches.
