Localized heavy or torrential rain is expected in Taitung, Hualien, Kaohsiung, and mountainous areas of Pingtung, with a chance of localized heavy rain in Pingtung plains, Tainan, Keelung, mountainous areas of Nantou, mountainous areas of New Taipei, as well as in Kinmen and Penghu. With continuous rainfall in recent days, be cautious of landslides, falling rocks, and mudflows. Low-lying coastal areas should guard against flooding, and avoid entering mountainous regions or river activities.
Since the early hours of September 13, Typhoon Meranti has brought abundant rainfall and strong winds, with the following significant accumulated rainfall recorded: 841 mm at Siyaduyushan in Pingtung County, 695 mm at Tianxiang in Hualien County, 688 mm at Xinvu in Taitung County, 409 mm at Taiping Mountain in Yilan County, 374 mm at Paiyun in Kaohsiung City, and 301 mm at Danda in Nantou County. Areas with strong gusts include: Dongji Island and Kinmen with winds over force 17, Orchid Island with force 17, Hengchun with force 16, Penghu, Tainan, and Kaohsiung with force 13, Dawu with force 12, Chenggong with force 11, Xinwu, Tamsui, Matsu, and Keelung with force 10.

Another typhoon, Malakas (No. 16, international name MALAKAS), which is approaching Taiwan’s landmass, intensified to a medium typhoon by the evening of the 14th. A sea warning may be issued late on the night of September 15, with its impact on Taiwan’s landmass becoming gradually more significant from the afternoon to the evening of the 16th, and it will be closest to Taiwan from the evening of the 16th to the early morning of the 17th. The northeastern and northern parts of Taiwan need to pay close attention to this typhoon’s movements. Travelers and those planning to go abroad should also monitor flight schedules.
