Founded in 1986, Pixar Animation Studios has consistently wowed audiences since the release of the world’s first 3D animated film, Toy Story. To celebrate the studio’s 30th anniversary, the "Pixar 30th Anniversary Special Exhibition" landed in November to mark its birthday, showcasing the studio’s development and allowing fans a glimpse into the secrets of its success.

The exhibition specially airlifted nearly 400 precious sketches to Taiwan, from original charcoal drawings and color scripts to three-dimensional models, offering fans an insight into the creative process of Pixar artists. This time, the exhibition also includes 16 feature-length animations, displaying nearly 400 pieces of precious artwork in one go, featuring beloved works such as the Toy Story trilogy, A Bug’s Life, Monsters, Inc., Monsters University, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles.

Two major installations of this special exhibition – the "3D Holographic Box" and the "Artistic Landscape" – place Pixar’s most iconic characters from Toy Story inside the 3D holographic box, using the persistence of vision effect to make Buzz Lightyear and Woody come to life inside it. The "Artistic Landscape" condenses years of sketches into a short film, allowing visitors to imagine the 3D space from 2D hand-drawn drafts just like producers, immersively experiencing the process of animation being created from scratch.

Although Pixar’s computer technology is masterful, without compelling stories, even the most advanced effects can’t move audiences. During the exhibition, co-founder and creative director John Lasseter shared the golden rules for successful animation with the audience: eye-catching “stories,” memorable “characters,” and realistic “worlds.”
