Winter is not only the season for hot springs but also the perfect time to enjoy the snow. In Heilongjiang Province on the Chinese mainland, there is an area known as the “Snow Village of China.” With long snow seasons and frequent snowfall, it’s said that “the sun shines no more than three days in a row.” Here you can see houses and natural scenery covered in snow, as well as incredibly cute snow mushrooms.

In fact, this Snow Village of China is the Shuangfeng Forest Farm within the Da Hailin Forestry Bureau, more than 100 kilometers from the town government. The period from December each year to March of the following year is when snowfall is heaviest, and the snowscapes are at their most beautiful – perfect for participating in snow activities. February to March sees the most frequent and heaviest snowfall, making it the best season for photography. There are fewer tourists then, less damage to the snowscapes, the largest icicles hanging from rooftops, and rising temperatures – ideal for staying a few days to slowly soak in the charm of the snow village.

The natural formation of snow mushrooms and various other snow shapes are truly healing, and the snow village at night gives the feeling of stepping into a fairy-tale dreamland, leaving an unforgettable impression.
