As the chilly winter quietly approaches, the world's most popular destinations and activities typically revolve around Christmas, skiing, the aurora borealis, and hot springs. This time, we’re highlighting some truly astonishing glacier sites—destinations as unforgettable in a lifetime as the northern lights. Aside from the coldest regions of the Arctic and Antarctic, many countries’ mountain ranges also conceal glacier scenery akin to secret paradises.

Eyjafjallajökull Ice Cap
Eyjafjallajökull is a glacier in southern Iceland and is the country’s fifth-largest glacier. It is also home to one of the most unique glacier landscapes, as beneath its ice cap lies a volcano that stands 1,666 meters tall. This volcano has erupted frequently since the Ice Age.
