2016The Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival was held for the first time at the Houli Flower Field Green Corridor,12/24-1/8running for16days. This year’s event took “Flowers Unveiling a New Wonderland” as its main theme, showcasing dynamic and three-dimensional elements such as a “carousel,” adorable and entertaining circus performances, and an hourly dynamic flower carpet stunt show — all aimed at transforming the traditional static floral displays through movement and creating a fresh new look for the international flower carpet festival. Additionally, in response to Houli being a habitat for the Formosan clouded leopard, a protected species, the festival also adopted the “clouded leopard” as a creative theme.

The festival’s themed characters are designed based on the Formosan clouded leopard, a protected local animal in Houli – Brother Xiaofu (left) and Sister Lele (right), bringing happiness and joy to all visitors.
Originally a landfill site, the Houli Flower Field Green Corridor has been transformed through planning and landscaping. This year, it serves as the venue for the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival, turning into a fairytale-like, three-dimensional floral theme park. Combining vibrant flowers with dynamic installation art, it features four major highlight zones: Taiwan’s first “three-dimensional dynamic carousel” main flower carpet, a large sunflower maze called “Flower Field Hide-and-Seek” loved by both adults and children, a clouded leopard-shaped three-dimensional art flower carpet titled “Peek-a-Boo,” and a dazzling festive-themed “Christmas Garden.” In addition, there are ten themed exhibition areas that highly integrate interaction with dynamic floral installations, waiting for visitors to explore to their heart's content.

Encircled by countless fresh flowers, the centerpiece is a giant carousel, spanning an overall diameter of 30 meters and standing 8 meters tall. Adorning the carousel are locally representative animals of the Greater Taichung area — including clouded leopards, horses, Formosan black bears, and llamas. Every hour and half-hour, it begins to rotate along with music, turning flower appreciation into not just a static experience but one filled with dynamic beauty.
