A striking new landmark has appeared in the park at the intersection of Guanghua Road and Yixin Road in Kaohsiung City. This is the site of the Kaohsiung 81 Gas Explosion. Originally a children’s park, it was later transformed through the invitation of a legislator and local social welfare groups. Designed by internationally renowned bamboo weaving artist Wang Wen-zhi, the large-scale art installation “Gather” was created using over 5,000 bamboo poles and 250,000 oyster shells. At night, it resembles a dreamy ocean castle, conveying the message of rebirth from despair and offering healing to the wounds of the past. As a result, it has become one of Kaohsiung’s most popular photography spots in recent years.
