The warm winter effect has lasted for some time, with many people still wearing short sleeves outdoors. On January 13, as a cold air mass from mainland China moves south, temperatures will drop. Affected by an eastward-moving cloud and rain system from southern China, there will be brief showers in northern Taiwan, eastern regions, as well as Matsu and Kinmen. Central and southern areas and Penghu may also see localized brief showers. Starting from the morning of the 13th, strong gusty winds of 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale are expected in areas north of Tainan, eastern parts (including Orchid Island and Green Island), the Hengchun Peninsula, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu—particularly in open areas and adjacent seas. Coastal regions will experience rough seas, so extra caution is advised for maritime activities.
Starting January 13, temperatures will drop sharply, and the weather will turn rainy.
In terms of temperature, northern Taiwan will see highs between 15～18°C, central and southern Taiwan between 17～22°C, and the Hengchun Peninsula and Kaohsiung-Pingtung area could reach up to 25°C. The outlying islands of Kinmen and Lienchiang will be cooler, around 11～15°C.Due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, a tropical depression, and its peripheral circulation, strong winds at sea will also intensify, averaging 6～7 on the Beaufort scale. By the evening of January 13, average wind speeds in the northern Taiwan Strait will further increase to 7 to 8, with maximum gusts reaching level 10.Boaters should exercise particular caution. Aside from the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area, most of Taiwan will experience rain on Saturday, so visitors should carry appropriate rain gear when heading out.
