Japanese creativity is applied to all kinds of things, and today we’re introducing how it’s been used in food and desserts. Recently, Yamamasa Seika, a company based in Tokushima City, launched a unique dessert that has become one of the hottest topics in Japan. Though it looks like an ice pop, it doesn’t melt at room temperature. In fact, this ice pop–like product is actually a stick of pounded sticky rice mochi (お餅バー). Made from the same sticky rice as daifuku mochi, it comes in eight flavors including mugwort and kinako (roasted soybean flour). When it hit the market, some customers even mistook it for an ice pop—making it quite a special and delightful treat.
