The 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival was held in Yunlin, undoubtedly the most lively Lantern Festival celebration across Taiwan. It featured two main lantern zones in Huwei and Beigang, covering a total area of 50 hectares with 20 themed sections. In addition to the world’s first 19,000-plus full-color LED lighting circuit system and a 23-meter-tall main lantern called “Phoenix Coming with Grace,” it’s worth mentioning that the Beigang Chaotian Temple lantern zone became the world’s largest lantern display — a milestone in the history of the Taiwan Lantern Festival.

As Beigang is the birthplace of Taiwan’s lantern culture and the national historic site Chaotian Temple — an icon of local temple architecture — served as the main lantern itself, internationally acclaimed master Zhou Lian, who created the lighting effects for the Statue of Liberty in the U.S., was invited to craft the most stunning lantern display for the beautiful Chaotian Temple.
