Best IG ruins-style photo spots: The grand and magnificent century-old iron bridge

Taiwan’s century-old architecture is incredibly diverse and rich. Through these historic sites, one can witness the traces of time. With the rise of the social trend of checking in and taking photos, heritage sites and ruins aesthetics have also become hugely popular. Located in Yunlin, the Huwei Iron Bridge has a history of over a hundred years. It was funded by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation (formerly known as the Taiwan Sugar Manufacturing Company) and its entire steel structure was designed by the British. Originally built for transporting sugarcane, it also served as a passage for local residents to cross the Huwei River. In recent years, it has become a uniquely charming tourist attraction.

The Huwei Railway Bridge is composed of three sections of steel trusses of varying heights standing in staggered formation, along with ten large hollow arch piers. Its majestic and magnificent presence not only symbolizes the steel age of early Taiwan, forged step-by-step through adversity and hardship, but has now also become an everlasting historical landmark for generations.

The Huwei Iron Bridge is one of the few railway bridges in Taiwan that still operates small sugar factory trains. It connects residents on both sides of the Xinhuwei River and is an important transportation bridge for the Huwei Township. Although it is not as famous as the Xiluo Bridge, it was built earlier and, after reconstruction, has become a key leisure attraction.
