Mashagou 3D Mural Village Officially Unveiled – Experience an Alternative Fishing Village Charm

The Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area Administration invested nearly NT$4 million to create the Mashagou 3D Mural Village, showcasing a blue-themed image of the General’s Mashagou fishing village through the themes of “ocean,” “fishing village life,” and “childlike fun.” Along with the initial nine 3D murals from the first phase, “Whimsical Skies,” a total of 36 3D murals have been completed. The inauguration ceremony was held on the 28th, with the local community welcoming the event in the festive spirit of a temple fair, creating a lively atmosphere.

Xu Zhen-neng, director of the Cloud Administration, stated that the Mashagou 3D Mural Village’s theme focuses on the ocean and fishing village charm, with artwork full of childlike appeal. Thoughtful signage has also been installed, allowing visitors to follow the blue fish icons on the ground to find the murals. Best photo spots are clearly marked in front of the artworks, ensuring visitors can capture the best images. The murals not only offer a strong sense of realism but also provide highly interactive experiences for tourists.

The Mashagou 3D murals are centered around the local temples, Li Sheng Temple and Guanyin Rock, with a total of 36 3D murals scattered throughout the alleys and lanes within the Mashagou tribal area. The main mural of “Whimsical Skies,” located in front of the local faith center Li Sheng Temple, stands two stories tall with an impressive presence. Popular spots nearby include “Meow Loves Eating Clay,” “Hippo Gazing at the Moon,” and “Reading Brings Benefits” at the former residence of Wu Qingyou. “Whale Color Mashagou” incorporates elements of the ocean and fishing village culture to enrich the locality’s character. The Cloud Administration has also produced a “Explore Whale Color Mashagou” map, inviting visitors to “follow the map and discover.”

The morning inauguration ceremony was held in front of the local temple, Li Sheng Temple, resembling a joyous temple fair as villagers gathered in the temple square to “join in the fun.” The event kicked off with a thunderous performance by a war drum team, followed by an introduction to the various mural features by the Cloud Administration. Later, the village chief, Chen Ming-tai, led a guided tour, taking attendees on a walk through the mural sites.
