[The Town Doctor] is the third feature film by director Thomas Lilti. Abandoning the approach of making documentaries, Lilti instead uses filmmaking and writing to tell stories that "document" all the medical realities happening in this era. The film offers a plain and warm perspective, allowing viewers to see the everyday interactions between the town doctor and the residents. With the arrival of a doctor from an unfamiliar city, the relationships between the residents and the doctor take on new developments, skillfully sketching out the personality traits of the two characters and their true original forms.

Jean-Pierre (François Cluzet) is a doctor who has been treating people in a remote small town for over thirty years. He is also the only doctor in the town, and even tasks like checking electricity and water meters have become part of his house calls. On top of that, he helps female residents deal with domestic violence issues. However, one day, he is diagnosed with a brain tumor. Reluctantly, he begins searching for a doctor willing to serve in the rural area.

The person assigned to replace him is a young and beautiful female doctor. He is extremely critical of her, almost harshly so, because she may soon become the only doctor in the town. The lively and beautiful female doctor quickly bonds with the residents, and suddenly he realizes he might not be as irreplaceable as he thought. At the same time, he notices that subtle feelings are quietly budding...
