Following the release of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking has also been announced. New York’s Eleven Madison Park claimed the top spot on the 2017 “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list, also winning the titles of “World’s Best Restaurant” and “Best Restaurant in North America.” The full list of this year’s winning restaurants was revealed at an awards ceremony held in Melbourne, featuring six newly listed restaurants. France, Spain, and the United States each had six restaurants on the list.

Among the seven Asian restaurants on the list, Japan and Thailand each secured two spots. Bangkok’s Gaggan, ranked seventh, was named “Asia’s Best Restaurant.” Taiwan-born chef André Chiang’s Restaurant ANDRé in Singapore rose 18 places to rank 14th, while Tokyo’s Den made its first appearance on the list at number 45.
Last year’s top-ranked Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, came in second this year and was once again named “Best Restaurant in Europe.” France had six restaurants on the list, three of which were in the top 20. Alléno Paris au Pavillon Ledoyen, led by chef Yannick Alléno, made its debut at number 31 and won the “Highest New Entry Award,” sponsored by Aspire Lifestyles. Another Parisian restaurant, Septime (ranked 35th), received the “Sustainable Restaurant Award,” sponsored by Silestone.
Spain also had six restaurants on the list, three of which were in the top ten. El Celler de Can Roca, which previously held the top spot, ranked third this year and was awarded the “Ferrari Trento Art of Hospitality Award.” Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns jumped 37 places to rank 11th, earning the “Highest Climber Award,” sponsored by Lavazza.
New York pastry master Dominique Ansel was honored with the 2017 “World’s Best Pastry Chef” award. Representing the host country Australia, Melbourne’s Attica (ranked 32nd) was once again named “Australia’s Best Restaurant.” Additionally, Victoria’s Brae restaurant, also in Melbourne, made its first appearance on the list at number 44.
Chef Virgilio Martínez won two major awards. His restaurant Central in Peru (ranked 5th) was named “Best Restaurant in South America,” and he also took home the “Chefs’ Choice Award,” sponsored by Estrella Damm. Renowned chef Heston Blumenthal received the 2017 “Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award,” and his London restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal climbed nine places to rank 36th. Ana Ros from Slovenia’s Hisa Franko restaurant was named “World’s Best Female Chef” for 2017.
