The China Airlines Pilots Union, which issued another statement in late January demanding that China Airlines improve working conditions, released a press release on February 7 stating that it would not rule out a strike. Then, at 00:00 on February 8, it was confirmed that a strike would begin at 6:00 AM on February 8.

The pilots union announced that it would begin striking at 6:00 AM on February 8 for flights departing from Songshan, Taoyuan, and Kaohsiung International Airports.
The demands of the China Airlines Pilots Union include improving fatiguing flight schedules, protecting the job rights of domestic pilots, and replacing unfit management personnel who undermine labor relations. Despite appeals from Minister of Transportation and Communications Lin Chia-lung urging China Airlines to handle the issue promptly and sending personnel to facilitate negotiations, the union still decided to go on strike.

Pilots who hand in their qualification certificates can no longer perform flight duties. During the strike drill, over 700 union members expressed support, and the number of affected flights could reach up to 200 per day.
