The success of "The Great Buddha+" at the Golden Horse Awards has unexpectedly made this clinic a viral sensation.

The domestic film "The Great Buddha+" won five Golden Horse Awards, sparking widespread enthusiasm. Director Huang Hsin-yao, who hails from Qigu, deliberately chose Tainan as the filming location for many scenes in the movie. Among them, the Qigu Health Center stood out to the crew due to its traditional clinic style. In fact, this isn’t the first time the health center has appeared on screen—Public Television Service dramas have filmed here multiple times before. Beyond its cinematic fame, the Qigu Health Center plays a vital role in rural healthcare, still treating nearly 100 patients daily on average. Now, it’s also become a popular spot for fans to visit.

"We’re truly honored!" said Director Huang Rui-ming. Some of the waiting and treatment area equipment at the Qigu Health Center has been well-maintained and not replaced over the years, unintentionally preserving the feel of a 1970s–80s clinic. Not only has it hosted film crews, but years ago, the Public Television Service drama "Where Is My Home?" was also filmed here. At that time, the nursing staff and he even made cameo appearances—he’s practically a “film and TV star.” Having served here for 22 years, he’s become something of a living emblem of the health center.

Huang Rui-ming said that Qigu District is located in a coastal area with limited transportation and insufficient medical resources. Many elderly residents still prefer to visit the health center for medical care. Nearly 100 patients are treated here daily, and in addition to general medical services, the six medical staff also handle health education, administrative tasks, and forensic examinations. Now, they’ve added “tour guide” to their duties—an interesting twist—but the nurses joked, “We still have weekends off!”

The old MaSaGou Fishing Port in Changsha Li, Jiajiang, gradually declined after the renovation and launch of Jiajiang Fishing Port. It unexpectedly became a filming location for "The Great Buddha+". Scenes include the opening sequence where one of the protagonists, "CaiFu," gets beaten up by colleagues for playing the funeral march off-key, as well as the home of another protagonist, "Ducai." Currently, "Ducai’s home" is stored in a factory by a supporting local resident, Chen Hui-huang, who also plans to restore and showcase it after some tidying up.
