Dried Scallop and Sakura Shrimp Fried Rice is both filling and refined—the umami of dried scallops, the sweetness of sakura shrimp, the fluffiness of taro, and the savory softness of the fried rice create a perfect harmony. (Photo / China Pacific Group)
As the Chinese character “fish” (鱼) sounds like “surplus” (余), no reunion dinner is complete without a fish. This golden, crispy sweet and sour sea bass is vibrant in color and deliciously tangy-sweet. (Photo / China Pacific Group)

The reunion dinner is the most important meal of the year—not only should it be hearty and satisfying, but it also carries deep cultural significance. In recent years, with changing family dynamics, New Year’s dishes have undergone a transformation. Especially with the rise of pre-ordered New Year’s meals, a table full of delicious dishes can be ready in moments with just a quick reheat on New Year’s Eve. The pre-ordered New Year’s meal market is booming, and China Pacific Unlimited+ has teamed up with China Airlines Catering to launch the “2018 Prosperity New Year’s Dishes,” offering a splendid and refreshing selection.

The “2018 Prosperity New Year’s Dishes” were created by China Airlines Catering’s Chinese cuisine head chef Liang Guode and pastry head chef Lu Qirong. Both chefs believe that “as long as the ingredients are genuine, the dishes will be healthy and delicious.” These luxurious yet classic New Year’s dishes are all traditional home-style favorites, with excellent ingredients and flavors, each dish exuding a rustic charm that is truly admirable.

The origin of “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” comes from its incredibly rich aroma—so enticing that even a Buddha would leap over a wall to try it. China Pacific’s version doesn’t rely on extravagance but emphasizes substance. The earthenware pot is filled with a variety of premium ingredients, including Dajia taro, shiitake mushrooms, chicken thigh meat, pork ribs, fish skin, pork belly, pig trotters, pigeon eggs, garlic, chestnuts, dried scallops, abalone slices, and more. The diverse flavors blend harmoniously, resulting in a rich, mellow, and unforgettable taste.

Another dessert, the “Eight-Treasure Taro Puree,” places great emphasis on cooking technique—the taro puree must be smooth but not mushy. As for the eight toppings, while there’s no strict rule, they are chosen to be delicate and colorful. China Pacific’s version includes kumquats, yellow natto, red beans, red dates, lotus seeds, raisins, winter melon candy, and seedless black dates—all prepared separately, offering a naturally sweet and delightful taste. The star ingredient, the taro puree, is mixed with purple sweet potato, symbolizing the auspicious “purple aura coming from the east,” and with the addition of butter, it has a smooth, soft, and sweet texture without being cloying.

Last year, China Pacific Unlimited and China Airlines Catering sold tens of thousands of sets of New Year’s dishes. This year, the “2018 Prosperity New Year’s Dishes” come in three sets: A, B, and C. Each dish serves approximately 4 to 6 people. From now until January 10, 2018, during the early bird promotion period, each set is eligible for an additional 12% discount. Whether for large families looking to add more dishes or small families ordering a single set, your New Year’s Eve dinner is effortlessly covered.
