The Alishan National Scenic Area Transfer Station, after more than seven years of effort and overcoming various challenges by the Chiayi Forest District Office under the Forestry Bureau, officially commenced operations at 8:00 AM on May 17. The Alishan Transfer Station is like a highland supply hub for travelers.

The small vehicle parking area within the Alishan National Scenic Area serves as the core recreation zone. To avoid pedestrian and vehicular flow issues caused by the entry of Class A and B public transport vehicles into this area, the Chiayi Forest District Office has, since 2010, successively overcome the challenges of relocating the CPC Corporation gas station, completed the soil and water conservation work at the new gas station site, and set up a parking lot. It then handed over the project to CPC Corporation for the construction of the new station, which was opened on February 9, 2013. The Forestry Bureau’s Chiayi Forest District Office then took over the construction of the transfer station. After more than three years of construction, it has finally been unveiled to visitors.

After Typhoon Morakot, the Executive Yuan approved the “Alishan National Forest Recreation Area Comprehensive Improvement Plan” in 2010, with the renovation of the Alishan entrance service area being a major goal. With the transfer station now in operation, it not only successfully resolves the safety concerns caused by the intertwining of small vehicles and large buses due to the limited width of forest roads within the scenic area, but also provides a safe and comfortable waiting area for travelers using public transportation to reach the mountain and scenic area, as well as those taking shuttle buses during peak seasons. Additionally, it offers diverse functions such as dining, nursing rooms, and restrooms, along with large scenic maps of the park and self-guided interactive information kiosks, allowing visitors to enjoy the fun of planning their own itineraries while waiting.

The transfer station is located near the junction of Provincial Highways 18 and 21. It currently provides transfer services for three bus companies from four counties and cities. Public transport vehicles have an estimated annual capacity of over 13,000 trips and 550,000 passengers. During holidays such as New Year’s Day, Lunar New Year, Flower Season, and long breaks, the off-site shuttle capacity exceeds 200,000 passengers annually.
In addition to the Five Wonders and Eight Scenic Spots, recently introduced attractions in Alishan National Forest Scenic Area such as the Alishan Poetry Path, Boat Bridge, and Xianglin Sacred Tree Theater have become must-visit photo spots recommended among photography enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the newly opened third-floor observation window of the Alishan Transfer Station features large floor-to-ceiling windows offering a direct view of Mount Tower. It serves as a fantastic hidden gem for enjoying sea of clouds, sunsets, and evening glow indoors. It is hoped that this place will become a new landmark and the warmest highland supply station for travelers passing through Provincial Highways 18 and 21, here waiting and welcoming all who come to experience the beauty of Alishan.
