Tainan Guanziling’s “Hidden Waterfall”  – Water cascades continuously down a 30-meter-high sediment dam

After several days of heavy rain across Taiwan, while scattered damage was reported in many counties and cities, the downpour also unexpectedly created stunning natural scenes. Photographer Hong Nianhong recently captured a small waterfall formed by the rain at a sediment dam in Guanziling. The water flows down the terrain with striking elevation changes, creating a breathtaking three-dimensional layered effect.

Hong Nianhong explained that this sediment dam is located at kilometer 42 on Route 172 in Guanziling. Simply look up to see the glistening flow of water. The dam is estimated to be around 20 to 30 meters high. He noted that the photo was taken when the water volume was relatively low, yet the scene still resembled a small waterfall. With recent heavier rainfall in the mountains, visiting after rain will reveal an even more majestic waterfall view.

To admire this hidden waterfall in Guanziling, Hong Nianhong said you just need to drive or ride along Route 172 toward Guanziling. Upon reaching Guanziling, there is a fork in the road—take the left turn toward the local chicken restaurant and hot spring area. After driving about 2–3 kilometers, the hidden waterfall can be found on your right-hand side and can be enjoyed right from the roadside.
