The annual summer highlight in Hualien that once caused a sensation across Taiwan—the Fun with Red Duck vacation—is coming back. The most heartwarming Red Duck family will meet everyone at Liyu Pond from July 1 to August 13. During the day, there will be rhythmic fountains; in the evening, there will be a sound-and-light water dance show, and the most popular water curtain theater “Legend of Qilai II” will also be staged, allowing visitors to experience the warmth of the indigenous homeland together.
The Fun with Red Duck summer event presents exciting and diverse outdoor stage performances every year. Not only do they incorporate the natural and cultural scenery of Hualien, but they also beautifully complement the picturesque view of Liyu Pond in Shoufeng Township. Last year, the first-ever mountain-water real scene show unique to Hualien was performed to unanimous acclaim. This year, the water stage at Liyu Pond will once again feature the ‘Water Real Scene Show ~ Legend of Qilai II’. The story of Legend of Qilai II continues from last year’s performance, themed around “Reverence for Heaven.” It depicts how the tribal people thrive between the grand mountains and vast waters, living in harmony with nature and celebrating a bountiful harvest, showcasing the footprints of indigenous life, the inheritance of tribal culture, and the festive spirit of a prosperous year.
The 2017 Red Duck Fun with Summer Water-Mountain Real Scene Show ~ Legend of Qilai II uses Liyu Mountain as the backdrop (mountain) and the surface of Liyu Pond as the canvas (water), blending the performances of local indigenous dancers to create a series of captivating scenes that reflect the cultural essence of Hualien’s indigenous homeland.
This year’s event features even richer content. In addition to the therapeutic duck family and the rhythmic fountain show, this year’s water dance show is even more spectacular, featuring Taiwan’s rare new-style dynamic sways as the centerpiece, combined with traditional various water dance forms, along with dazzling, colorful high-brightness LED lights and laser animations for an integrated performance. It also introduces a custom-made 3D projection animation, which not only showcases cutting-edge technology but also integrates imagery from Hualien’s latest top 100 scenic spots, presenting a stunning water dance show—‘Rippling Currents.’
