World-class anime event – Take amazing photos at Nagoya’s top five attractions

The entire city of Nagoya turns into a cosplay playground. From July 29 to August 6, the 15th World Cosplay Summit 2017 will take place. During the one-week performance competition, 35 countries will participate, and Taiwan also held a preliminary selection to choose its representative team for the event. Amusement parks will be cleared for cosplayers to take photos in anime-themed settings, moving through both real and virtual scenes as if stepping into the world of anime. Visitors to Nagoya’s downtown area during this time can also dress up in cosplay and walk the streets or take photos with their favorite cosplayers.

The World Cosplay Summit 2017 kicks off on July 29, taking place at Oasis21, Aichi Arts Center, LAGUNA TEN BOSCH, Osu Shopping District, and Meiji Mura Open Air Architectural Museum. These five Nagoya tourist spots all become cosplay hubs, with the main event locations including the park in front of the TV tower in Nagoya’s bustling Sakae district. Those wanting to join in street cosplay can dress up and explore the area, or snap photos with their favorite cosplayers on the street for a unique travel experience.

LAGUNA TEN BOSCH, a theme park and shopping destination combined, offers day-and-night festivities starting July 29. The One Piece-themed area of the park will allow cosplay enthusiasts to take plenty of photos. At night, the amusement park is specially closed to the public, with the pool area lit up to create a virtual nighttime cityscape, and hundreds of night lights illuminating the grass. In addition, there will be a spectacular fireworks show. Wandering through this scene feels like stepping into a dreamlike world.

On August 3, cosplay fans can head to Meiji Mura, an open-air architectural museum with a Meiji-period style, for a unique photo backdrop. Stroll among various distinctive buildings to find scenes that match your anime character's costume. This special photo opportunity is only available in Nagoya during the event.
