Its store designs are also tailored to reflect local cultural vibes, resulting in many distinctive branches around the globe. This summer, Starbucks Japan is set to open yet another new branch—this time in the historic area near Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The company has transformed a traditional machiya townhouse that’s over a century old into the very first machiya-style Starbucks, which opened on June 30.
Starbucks Japan’s New Branch – Kyoto Ninen-zaka Yasaka Tea House Shop
Strolling through the ancient capital of Kyoto, you’ll see wooden houses and experience the charm of traditional machiya living, all steeped in history. This Starbucks Kyoto Ninen-zaka Yasaka Tea House Shop is the world’s first branch where customers can enjoy coffee while sitting on tatami mats, elegantly blending Eastern and Western, as well as old and new, cultural elements.
