The 2017 Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival will be held at the Dongshan River Water Park from July 1 to August 13. This year’s theme is “A Time-Traveling Adventure.” The main visual design uses a jigsaw puzzle to represent the festival’s four key pillars, and personifies the puzzle pieces as adventurers, inviting everyone to join in the brave exploration at the festival.

Since its inception in 1996, the Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival is about to celebrate its 22nd year, having accompanied 9.06 million people through joyful summer vacations. It has invited 321 international performance troupes from 91 countries, making it Yilan County’s most iconic flagship event and a highly anticipated large-scale cultural festival.
This year’s festival content continues to connect the four main themes of the Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival — “Exhibitions,” “Performances,” “Games,” and “Exchanges.”
Five major highlights have been planned —
(1)From Sunshine to Starlight: The park hours have been extended from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM, a full 12 hours, welcoming visitors to fully enjoy the festival. Starting at 4:00 PM from Monday to Friday, Starlight Tickets are available for just NT$150. Not only can you experience the festival in the evening, but you can also stroll leisurely along the Dongshan River under the cool summer breeze at night.
(2)The World at Your Fingertips: This year’s participating teams span all five continents, with 20 countries and 27 groups expected, including Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador, which are visiting the festival for the first time. Enjoy music and dance performances that showcase the cultural flavors of different ethnicities.
(3)Experience a Time-Traveling Adventure: Up to 75% of the exhibits in the pavilions are hands-on experiences, transforming children’s active participation into inspiration for intelligence and senses. Invite both kids and adults to become time-traveling explorers, journeying through toys from different eras for a fantastical adventure.
(4)Creative New Water Facilities: The water play area introduces new elements for fun in the water, inviting everyone to brave the water world and enjoy the coolest and most refreshing Children's Festival experience.
(5)The Whole County Becomes the Festival: Connecting the features and highlights of various towns in Yilan County, visitors are invited to deeply experience the charm of the local area. A trip to Yilan will reveal that the entire county is immersed in the joyful atmosphere of the Children's Festival.
To facilitate access for visitors from other cities and counties, the Yilan County Government has again prepared supporting transportation measures during the festival. During the event, the public is encouraged to use public transport such as trains and buses. Four major intercity bus companies have specially partnered with the festival, offering 5–10 special Children's Festival shuttle buses daily from major transit stations in Taipei City and New Taipei City to the festival site. Passengers on these shuttle buses can also purchase discounted admission tickets. Those traveling by train can get off at the Luodong Station and transfer to a local bus to the Dongshan River Water Park.

Pre-sale tickets for the Children's Festival are now on hot sale. Holiday individual tickets are priced at NT$300, and regular individual tickets at NT$200, both NT$50 cheaper than the on-site price during the event period. From now until June 30, the public can purchase electronic tickets at the four major convenience store chains: 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart. During the event, holders of the National Travel Card, E.SUN Bank Card, EasyCard, iPass, and HappyCash can also enjoy discounted ticket offers.
