To stimulate public awareness and concern for the environment and to explore the relationship between architecture and artistic aesthetics, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) holds an annual X-Site open call, selecting a temporary architectural installation as a space for experiencing the fusion of architecture and the environment. This year’s first-prize winner selected from 37 entries, *Mist Encounter*, uses construction scaffolding and semi-transparent soft materials as its main structure. Through its mist installation, it responds to this year’s theme. The ethereal atmosphere of this installation art has attracted many visitors and netizens to take photos and post on social media, sparking a trend of “fairy tale” photo shoots on Instagram.
A construction site shed is a temporary structure used by workers for meals and rest, typically built with simple materials and functions that hold little aesthetic value. However, *Mist Encounter* seeks to reshape perceptions of such sheds, emphasizing engineering aesthetics and the economics of art—crafting an artwork-like installation using the most basic construction materials.
*Mist Encounter* creates an interactive spatial connection with the museum. Surrounded by a misty ambiance, its humidity and temperature regulation functions produce a dreamlike microclimate art experience in the summer outdoor plaza. It not only responds to this year’s theme but also resonates with the museum’s upcoming air-conditioning renovation project set to launch in September.
