Due to Typhoon Nesat, the Xinzhu City Government issued a notice on the evening of the 27th postponing the Hot Air Balloon Carnival (2017 Qingqing Grassland Summer Vacation) to August 5 and 6.
When summer arrives, the whole of Taiwan kicks into high gear with events, and among them, the hot air balloon carnival is one of the highlights of every summer vacation. In addition to Shimen and Taitung, Xinzhu will also host a hot air balloon carnival over two days, July 29 and 30, at Qingqing Grassland. Xinzhu hosted its first hot air balloon event last year, attracting about 70,000 participants in just two days, with some queuing up the day before the event and even camping overnight at Qingqing Grassland.
Continuing last year’s soaring popularity, this year’s hot air balloon spectacular at Qingqing Grassland combines with the longest terrazzo slide in northern Taiwan, allowing visitors not only to enjoy and experience the hot air balloons but also to lounge on the vast lawns for picnics and connect with nature.
Qingqing Grassland is a rare large expanse of grassland in Taiwan. Once the hot air balloons take off, you can gaze at the stunning 18-kilometer stretch of blue coastline. This year, at least three hot air balloons will ascend at 5:30 AM, when the air currents are most stable, using tethered release. The event features four tethered hot air balloon experiences, offering over 1,000 free spots for visitors to ride the gently ascending balloons and take in the sweeping views of Qingqing Grassland. Should weather conditions affect the event, it will be postponed to August 5 and 6.
