Summer Limited Edition ! Tokyo’s Nihonbashi Transforms into a Goldfish Street

Every summer, the area around Tokyo’s Nihonbashi is filled with an elegant summertime atmosphere. This year, from July 7 to September 24, various themed events will be held, turning the streets of Nihonbashi into a beautiful goldfish-themed wonderland. This year’s theme is ECO EDO Nihonbashi “2017 – Enjoying the Cool of Old Edo with All Five Senses,” combining the traditional summer cooling culture of the Edo period with modern artistic design to create a uniquely refined Japanese summer ambiance around Nihonbashi.

The Art Aquarium series, which has been held since 2007, combines artistic design with the world of aquariums, giving visitors the dreamlike illusion of beautiful fish swimming in the sky. With the addition of traditional Japanese “wa” elements, the event has expanded to cities such as Kyoto, Kobe, and Nagoya, continuously evolving and experimenting. It has even made its way to Milan, Italy, allowing people to deeply appreciate how the fusion of “tradition” and “modernity” can result in something so exquisitely beautiful.

Visiting “ECO EDO Nihonbashi” this summer, you can not only enjoy the aqua art exhibition “Art Aquarium 2017 ~Edo’s Cool~ & Night Aquarium,” which combines dazzling lighting designs with 8,000 ornamental fish, but also indulge in goldfish-shaped desserts and special menus, and join the Goldfish Summer Festival. As you stroll along Nihonbashi’s classic lantern-lit streets, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into the radiant charm unique to the Edo period.
