The Perseid Meteor Shower Makes a Grand Appearance – Eight Stargazing Spots in Tainan

It’s midsummer night, and Taiwan’s skies are beginning to twinkle. One of the three major meteor showers of the year, the “Perseid Meteor Shower,” will make its appearance on August 12th. As long as the weather is clear, cloudless, and air pollution is minimal, you can witness approximately 150 meteors streaking across the sky every hour. Below are eight stargazing spots in Tainan that are ideal for the occasion — all offer wide, unobstructed views and are free from light pollution. These spots are perfect for naked-eye stargazing, so why not plan a starry sky adventure?

1. Daxi District – Tainan Astronomy Museum
The Tainan Astronomy Museum campus spans 12 hectares. In addition to offering excellent natural conditions for astronomical stargazing, it also features hiking trails where visitors can explore mudstone badland formations, rich flora and fauna ecosystems, and the area's abundant cultural heritage, making it a great destination for connecting with nature.

2. Qigu District – Qigu Seawall
Recently, the seawall renewal project at the Qigu Salt Fields has been completed. Leisure facilities such as sunset viewing paths and observation towers have been restored, allowing visitors to stroll along the sunset path, admire Qigu Lake, enjoy the sunset, and stargaze.
