The world’s first Yayoi Kusama art museum—A must-visit new attraction for art and culture lovers

Japan’s contemporary avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama’s first official museum opened in October in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district. The location of the “Yayoi Kusama Museum” is also the artist’s former studio, situated in Bunkyocho, Shinjuku. In addition to displaying a large number of Yayoi Kusama’s representative works, the museum will also feature interactive experience installations, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in her captivating polka dot creations.

The area where the “Yayoi Kusama Museum” is located has a rich artistic atmosphere. Its pure white exterior walls and large floor-to-ceiling windows stand tall and striking amidst the surrounding brown and gray educational and cultural buildings. The museum’s first floor houses the lobby and a themed merchandise shop, while the second and third floors are dedicated to Yayoi Kusama’s exhibitions. The fourth floor will showcase her “Infinity Mirror Rooms,” and the fifth floor serves as a reading space as well as an archive for Yayoi Kusama-related materials and creative documents. In addition, the Yayoi Kusama Museum also features an outdoor area.
